China Rejects US Sanctions on Cuba
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that the US blockade and sanctions have “wreaked havoc on Cuba’s economy and people’s livelihoods,” causing widespread suffering among Cubans while facing broad opposition from the global community.
Her remarks followed accusations by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who claimed that Cuba sponsors terrorism and supports left-wing militant groups across the Western Hemisphere. Rubio asserted that “virtually every left-wing, radical, violent terrorist group in the Western Hemisphere has at some point relied on support from Cuba.” He further argued that
Cuba requires “systemic and serious reform” to avoid remaining a failed state that threatens the United States.
Responding to these statements, Mao emphasized that China firmly backs Cuba in defending its sovereignty and security while rejecting external interference. She added, “The US should heed the call from the international community to immediately stop its blockade, sanctions, coercion and pressure against Cuba.”
