Trump Says US to Hold Talks With Cuba After It “Asked for Help”

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Cuba has sought assistance from Washington and indicated that discussions between the two sides are expected to take place.

Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said, “No Republican has ever spoken to me about Cuba, which is a failed country and only heading in one direction – down.”

“Cuba is asking for help, and we are going to talk,” he said.

Trump also referenced his upcoming trip to Beijing, adding, “In the meantime, I’m off to China,” ahead of meetings scheduled this week with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to reports, Trump has recently sharpened his language toward Cuba, including reposting a message on Truth Social suggesting he intends to visit a “free Havana” before the end of his presidency.

Reports also said the Trump administration has imposed an oil blockade targeting the island nation.
